Ray Williams - Flignats

Ray Williams bio picture

I am originally from (Northern) New Jersey.  However, I spent a big portion of my childhood in upstate New York.  At the age of 17 I elected to join the United States Navy, arriving at my station aboard the USS Boxer, San Diego, California.  My 4 years in the Navy proved to be busy ones, having completed 3 tour duties.  In 2007 I left the Navy to continue college.  Currently, I am enrolled at Syracuse University.

My childhood included frequent trips to the local video stores, to rent movies.  For a couple years I had actually worked at a video store, which only fueled my fascination for movies.  Originally, my taste had been tailored to Hollywood action films and comedies.  However, I soon found that I enjoyed the independent artist's take on movies, stories, and cinema much more.  My favorite movies include Gummo, Ken Park, Stephen King's IT (a childhood movie I can never get enough of), and a list that is forever growing.  I have a tuned taste for horror films, B rated, independent, mainstream, whatever.  If it's in the horror genre, or close, I want to see it.  I've always been an avid horror reader, watcher, and only plan to grow in that genre.

Please stop by my page and let me know your opinion of my reviews, comments on Movie-Critic, suggestions you'd like to see in our community, or just plain discussion.

I am from (just south of) San Francisco, California, and although I am currently going to school on the East Coast, I will always be a California girl at heart.  You can take the girl out of San Francisco, but you can’t take the San Francisco out of her!  I plan to return someday…

I grew up doing all things active: sports, bike riding, skateboarding, you name it!  This was obviously not a point in my life in which I was watching very many movies.  In fact, the only movies I really watched before High School were Disney movies.  Oh, did I love my Disney movies… I guess I shouldn’t lie.  I still love Disney movies.

During High School, and especially now in college, I watch movies all the time.  I am most partial to indie movies.  I love being able to take something away from the movie, or learn something new; gain new insight into something previously unknown.  I’m not usually very crazy about action movies or horror movies.  Romance movies aren’t really my thing either.  I like seeing something new: something that hasn’t been done before.

I’d love to hear your opinions on my reviews!  So, check out my profile, drop me a message, whatever :)

I am an art major and marketing minor at SU.  I haven't written a real paper in about a year but I like to write reviews anyways because I love movies and disagree with a lot of
film critics.  I like most film genres except for gory horror films.  Art direction is a huge factor in how I react to films.
