Slumdog Millionaire

Millionaire follows a poor, young man from Mumbai close to winning a million dollars on a popular Indian game show (their version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?") even though he is a nothing from the slums. Convinced he is cheating, he is tortured as he tries to explain how he knows the answers to the obscure questions without an education or money. He explains the questions one by one in horrifying detail-he knows one about a hindu god because it ties back to how his mother is senselessly murdered and how he knows the lyrics to a song because a “savior” of orphans taught it to them to sing when begging for money, before he blinded the best singers to earn more. These memories lead back to his reason for being on the show, to the love of his life Latika-the orphaned girl he met as a child and has spent his whole life finding and losing over and over again while battling his brother as they struggle to survive in the slums.
